Explore the video provided and reflect on the themes of a PLN in a professional capacity.
Brad Baker is a principal who oversees the indigenous education program. He discusses the importance of a professional learning community, especially to a person’s well-being. Brad relates this to his own professional learning community where he shares his beliefs and voices his opinion for matters he supports or stands for, and where he shares his personal life. He highlights how it is important to have respectful, and healthy dialogue in a professional learning community.Sharing and commenting opinions through healthy and respectful dialogue enables more people to join the PLN, and also give their opinions and perspectives on different matters. This can enable learning and have a positive impact on everyone involved.
Which social media platforms are beneficial in education?
Twitter in my opinion is one of the best social media platforms for education. Designed as a social media tool, many classrooms use Twitter to enhance learning, connect with and educate students and parents outside the classroom. It’s a great way to post reminders for students, as well as posting trending and important events happening around the world. Students can also use it to provide feedback, as well as interact with their peers.
Another platform that can be beneficial for education is TED Ed. TED Ed is a lesson creation platform that allows you to organize assignments around video and evaluate students’ involvement in teaching materials. The format of the lesson is: the title of the lesson, a written introduction , a series of multiple-choice or open questions, and additional resources for further research. The platform also allows for interactive class discussions.
Consider the equality that exists when all have the same platform to engage community dialogues.
Everyone having the same platform to engage in allows for equality in many ways. The first of which is the ability to share opinions and be seen by anyone, giving people the opportunity to reply and interact with each other and form networks and relationships. This displays equality because everyone can post freely online, in person however, some people are afraid to speak their mind or tend to keep to themselves. This can pose a barrier to forming relationships and networks.
